The weekend I arrived in Japan, cherry blossoms were going to be in their full bloom mode in Tokyo. I was very jet-lagged but didn’t want to miss this another opportunity of seeing cherry blossoms of Tokyo. There were a lot of spots in Tokyo which were worth seeing and, as our Japanese friends suggested, we rented a bicycle. Now we were all geared up to see the beautiful city soaked up with cherry blossoms on our bikes.
What I also noticed, was the fact that people around were in a very joyous, partying mood during this season! Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) is a Japanese custom whereby the usually polite and serious Japanese community let there hair down to have some raucous fun! Also, Tokyo was very crowded that day as all people were out of their houses to enjoy the nature in different ways. Some were just taking a stroll through a tunneled avenue of cherry blossoms, some were relaxing under the old-trees and some were under the cherry blossom trees, enjoying the pink floral cloud above their heads, enjoying drinks, foods and music – just like a picnic!
