Last weekend we had been to Tokyo. We visited the Sensoji temple in Asakusa. It is one of Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temples, said to have been built in seventh century. We entered through the main-Kaminarimon gate (Sensoji temple has three gates). At the entrance is a giant red lantern hanging from the gates. As we walked through the gate, I was surprised to see the place thronged with people visiting the temple and shopping at the souvenir stores that line the streets and the avenue leading up to the temple. This street is known as the Nakamise shopping arcade, lined with colorful, lively stalls selling traditional knick- knacks. The temple is very beautiful with a five storey pagoda and the fortune telling stall!
