My thoughts on Minimalism

I have been reading a lot on minimalism these days on internet and I realized how I was already practicing some of the minimalism stuff unconsciously

  1. My house only has required furniture, no excessive side tables, lamps, chairs, big pieces of furniture in the way or accent stuff
  2. I haven’t bought glass storage jars to store dried groceries like lentils, beans, rice. I re-use glass nut butter jars, pasta sauce bottles, kirkland plastic jars that contain nuts etc
  3. I use disposable to a minimum possible mostly for groups above 6-8 people. I have a lot less people home now for food compared to earlier
  4. No extra dresses and clothing because “it looks cute”. I go shopping only when needed and I have had many uses from the clothes I have or if they don’t fit too well. Before, I buy new clothes, I make sure to go though my closet and donate whatever I haven’t worn in over a year.
  5. I only have 5-7 bags and shoes in my closet from the past 8 yrs I have lived here. Again, I avoid buying bags/shoes just because they look cute. I also do not own super high end bags but love my Kate Spade and Calvin Klein. I mostly end up buying reasonable bags from Aldo/ Guess. I just cannot justify spending over 150-200$ for a handbag, that’s just me. I have learnt that one is never going to have enough clothes, bags and shoes and the greed of having more is only going to continue and so I have decided to stick to what I need and what I end up using the most. As a result, I same wear bags, shoes, dresses to multiple events. I do not believe in buying single wear and then keep them in your closet stuff.
  6. I also do not buy too many cosmetics, I own basic one or two moisturizers, shampoos, facewash and necessary toiletries. I do have slightly more lipsticks than I would like to have and that’s because I was experimenting which shades look good on me. The lipstick phase seems to be fading now especially matte ones because they make my lips super-dry. I am back to liking tinted gloss, lip-balms. I only own one foundation, kajal, eyeliner and mascara. I do not hoard on multiple brands.
  7. On weekdays, I eat out of reusable lunch box and water bottle that can be refilled. I avoid eating out of disposables and limit the use of bottled water.
